Justice minister announces expansion of video evidence for child witnesses

Justice minister Mike Penning has announced plans to expand the use of video evidence for child witnesses in England and Wales. Final recommendations for policy on keeping children safe online published

EU Kids Online have published the final recommendations for policy on keeping children safe online. Recommendations include that teachers should integrate online safety skills across the curriculum and the Government should promote positive online content for different age groups. New report reveals more boys involved in child sexual exploitation than previously thought

A study funded by the Nuffield Foundation and carried out by Barnardo’s, NatCen and UCL, has analysed the records of 9,042 children affected by child sexual exploitation and supported by Barnardo’s since 2008. Nottingham police give sexting warning to schools

Nottinghamshire police force has written to schools in the county warning schoolchildren that they could face prosecution for sexting. The letter cites the case of a teenage girl who was cautioned for distributing an indecent image of a child after sending a topless picture of herself to her boyfriend. Source: Guardian 22 July 2014

Over 2000 children investigated for social media abuse since 2011

Research suggests 500 victims of abuse by Jimmy Savile

A Panorama investigation into Jimmy Savile is on BBC1 on 2 June at 20.30 pm. NSPCC research for this programme has found that there have been at least 500 reports of abuse by Savile and most of the alleged victims were between 13 and 15, but the youngest was two-years-old. Source: BBC Online

Pilot for young witnesses starts
